How should I prepare for my pet's annual appointment?
Most pet owners have their pet's annual appointment at the same time their yearly vaccinations are due. Bring any previous veterinary history and/or vaccination history. With these previous records we can provide the optimal care to your pet's need. At the time of their appointment the doctor will conduct a thorough examination of the eyes, ears, mouth, etc. If you have any concerns, please feel free to ask about those concerns.
What is the process for having my pet spayed or neutered?
Most veterinary clinics recommend spaying or neutering around 4 to 6 months of age. This time frame is ideal because at this age it is safer for your pet to undergo anesthesia, there is no risk of them being in heat, and the surgery will have been performed before other sexual characteristics have developed. If you want to have the procedure done at our clinic, we require a pre-surgical consultation examination to ensure that your pet is in good health and has had all the necessary vaccinations. At this time, the procedure will then be scheduled.
How long do the sutures stay in after my pet's surgery?
If the veterinarian placed external sutures, they can be removed approximately 7-10 days after the procedure. Although do not be alarmed if your pet does not have sutures when they go homes, as some veterinarians place internal sutures. Check your pet's incision daily to ensure the area looks clean and dry, sutures are still there, if applicable, and that the skin does not look irritated.
How often does my pet need to have their teeth cleaned? Is there anything I should be doing at home?
During your pet's annual examination, we will check their teeth to determine if it is time for a professional cleaning. Larger dogs usually require a cleaning every one to three years, while a smaller dog may require a cleaning every six to 12 months. Tartar build-up and dental disease varies from pet to pet, so it is best to have your pet's teeth checked at least once a year. To help with your pet's oral health at home, brush their teeth and/or use dental chews.
Can my pet catch a cold or flu?
Although your pet can rarely catch strep throat, he can't catch a cold or the flu from you. That does not mean your pet can’t have an upper respiratory infection or intestinal disruptions. Coughing, sneezing, vomiting and or diarrhea can all be debilitating for your pet and we recommending setting up an appointment with our animal clinic if your pet is suffering from these symptoms.
How often do you recommend performing blood work on my pets?
In addition to having an annual physical exam for your pet, we also recommend having routine blood work done once a year. This blood work checks your pet's kidney's liver, blood sugar, and blood protein levels. It is very easy to take the samples needed for blood work at the same time we perform the yearly heartworm test. For our senior pets we may recommend more extensive blood profiles.
How can I make payments?
Payment is required at the time of service and we gladly accept cash, checks and all major credit cards.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a 24 hours notice to cancel all appointments. Please be sure to contact us if you will not be able to make your scheduled appointment in order to avoid being charged for the visit.
Do you allow urgent or same day appointments?
